Dr. Butler’s experience in workforce development, and lifelong service to the Coastal Region, will be invaluable at helping STAR carry out its mission. She is joining the team at a critical time when workforce and talent development is important to many of our regional businesses. Her network and leadership in the community will allow her to hit the ground running to help our area residents and businesses with talent and skill development,” Vanessa Wagner, Golden Isles Development Authority, volunteer Board Member.

In addition to her professional experience in workforce development, she is a dedicated servant of her community. Currently, she is active in various civic and community organizations including, The Children’s Reading Foundation of Georgia, College of Coastal Georgia Foundation, and Glynn County School District CTAE Advisory Team .

It was through her volunteer work that Dr. Butler initially discovered STAR. She shared,

“In 2014, I had the opportunity to conduct mock interviews for STAR students. I immediately was impressed with the mission and outstanding work of STAR.

One of my career aspirations was to be an ED for a non-profit, particularly in workforce training/development. When I learned of this position with STAR, I felt it would be an excellent opportunity to merge my extensive workforce development experience with my passion for community and service.”

Since that time, Dr. Butler has followed the work of STAR. She worked closely with STAR on the regional “Golden Opportunities Talent Development Strategy” in her most recent position. Her experience and familiarity with the STAR mission helped Dr. Butler begin the position with goals already in mind for STAR’s continued success.

“As a visionary and servant leader, I look forward to building off the past successes of STAR.

Since its inception in 1997, STAR has been a workforce engine for our community. STAR has provided training courses and workshops to improve job readiness, college readiness, technological skills, financial self-sufficiency and address barriers to help individuals become successful in their career and personal goals.

As the ED, I look forward to expanding the STAR brand in McIntosh and Camden communities. Additionally, enhancing community partnerships which will help leverage community resources, create employment opportunities for students, and strengthen our workforce.” Said Dr. Butler.

Dr. Butler will be joining the STAR staff, including Nickol Shepherd — Program Manager/Instructor, Jayne Matthews – Instructor, and Debbie Banks — Administrative Assistant. STAR is further supported by a Board of Directors led by Donna Davis.
