Kyajuana Gilbert — Executive Director
Kyajuana joined Glynn County’s non-profit community in 2015. Her local career journey has afforded opportunities to work with United Way of Coastal Georgia, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Coastal Health District. She was recently named Georgia Department of Public Health Facilitator of the Year. She has experience as a youth development director, college and career readiness advisor, program facilitator, curriculum developer, and college recruiter/advisor and instructor. A native of Decatur, Georgia and a graduate of Savannah State University, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications in 2004. While an adult student pursuing a Master of Business Administration at the University of Phoenix, she worked as an enrollment counselor/advisor, often instilling hope and charting a course for those who never thought that college was an option. She has a passion for training, inspiring, and assisting others in accomplishing their educational and personal goals, which drew her to STAR Foundation.
She joined STAR Foundation in August of 2018 as a contracted instructor where she created the curriculum and taught a Career BootCamp course for STAR graduates. She began her role as Executive Director in September 2018 and has continued to inspire transformation change. Through interactive and innovative training programs, she continues her mission of making a positive impact in the lives of youth and adults in our community.
Nickol Shepherd — Program Manager/Instructor
Nickol is a native of Brunswick who recently returned home after living in Augusta Georgia for over 20 years. Nickol is a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a BBA in Business Management, and she studied Instructional Technology at Troy University. Nickol has eighteen years of the educational experience. Her experience includes fifteen years of classroom experience with the Richmond County School System. Nickol taught various grade subjects in elementary and middle school. In addition to her classroom experience, she has served as an after-school program site coordinator and an adult education instructor. Nickol is a mother of a son and a daughter. She enjoys cooking and entertaining and spending time with friends and family.
Debbie Banks — Administrative Assistant
Debbie comes to STAR as a part-time administrative assistant after having served on the Board of Directors for two years. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a BBA in Marketing. A native of Americus, Debbie has lived in the Golden Isles for 15 years and is proud to call this community home. She has two sons, in college and high school, and enjoys any time she can spend outside in our beautiful area.
