STAR is excited to be partnering with The Local Brew this month for a fundraiser. The Local Brew is a St Simons Island based coffee shop that encourages its patrons to "eat well and live well." This month, a portion of the proceeds The Local Brew receives from juice sales will go directly to STAR! Do visit them at 26 Market Street, right behind Zaxby's.
STAR’s fall graduation was held on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the College of Coastal Georgia’s Stembler Theatre. We celebrated our 3rd and 4th quarter Employment Readiness graduates and the 3rd quarter Employment and Education Readiness Graduates. Dr. Johnny Evans, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at College of Coastal Georgia, provided a powerful commencement speech encouraging our graduates to believe, hope, grow, and succeed. We are so proud of the graduates and are looking forward to seeing them succeed in reaching their educational and professional goals!
Our Employment and Education Readiness Class at Coastal Plains Charter High School was a huge success. The class was held on Wednesday evenings for 10 weeks. Our program served as a supplement to their night school classes. We focused on topics including appropriate workplace behaviors, interview preparation, college planning, personal marketing, goal setting, and self-discipline. It was a great experience working with these dedicated young adults. We look forward to teaching at Coastal Plains again next year!
What an exhilarating night facing the beautiful ocean on the Georgia Coast! STAR Foundation is honored to have the love and support of our Coastal Georgia family. On October 13, we had our annual Benefit and celebrated, with 150 guests, under the stars of Sea Island. This yearly extravaganza helps us continue to offer free classes to our students, who only pay us a small application fee for each course. We’re grateful for the generosity and big hearts of our Coastal Georgia STARs whose generous donations help us make this a grand, income-producing affair each year!
We are ecstatic whenever we receive ANY sort of funding that helps us carry out our mission of helping people become financially self-sufficient. This one is even more exciting for us at STAR Foundation because it helps us meet the changing needs of our community. This Fall, STAR Foundation was the recipient of a $5000 grant from the United Way of Coastal Georgia. As a partner in this new effort, we will help the United Way focus its efforts on encouraging and empowering the next generation of income-generating individuals. What can be more inspiring than that? We are stoked that with this grant, we are able to come up with new ideas: a new program designed to provide a practical office environment and soft skills experience for the next generation…
