On the Job

Juanita Evans

At STAR, I started a new chapter along with a new journey. I had wanted to work for SEPA (Southeastern Pathology Associates) even before I took the STAR class and am now employed there as a Lab Technician.

My belief in myself was the lowest it has ever been after losing a job I held for 13 years,.  After graduation, I kept coming back to STAR to job search and found the perfect one for me: managing greeting card displays and inventory in area stores for Hallmark Cards.

The most important thing I have learned at STAR is how to set your goals and achieve them. After being unemployed for more than a year, I am now working at the Southeast Georgia Health System’s Senior Care Center. I plan to go to the College of Coastal Georgia in 2014 to get a degree in Criminal Justice.

STAR has been a good place for me to start my long term goal. I enrolled in the culinary program at Altamaha Technical College and will graduate in December 2013. I would never have had the confidence to take my education to the next level without the confidence I gained at STAR.
