After 20 years of great service to over 1300 students, Ellen Murphy, STAR Foundation’s Founding Executive Director, handed the reins to incoming Executive Director, Cheryl Isaac. The wonderful people from the Brunswick News were there to capture this moment of change and vibrancy for us here at STAR Foundation.
The move to the STAR Foundation was a purpose-driven one for our new Executive Director. A survivor of the Liberian Civil War of the 1990s, a witness to stark poverty, and a woman who fought many odds to achieve her dream, Cheryl was personally drawn to STAR’s mission and professionally drawn to a position that paralleled her diverse skillset. Cheryl received her training within the financial industry, where she worked for over a decade as a small business banker and financial planner, managing money and growing financial portfolios. Later, she operated her own business as a startup strategist for micro-entrepreneurs and nonprofits.
